Silence
I recently came to the realisation that
'silence'
as we define it cannot truly
be found on Earth.
Even the quietest rooms,
devised by scientists,
are recorded as being
overwhelming
due to the now-audible
bodily functions of participants.
Perhaps it is something innately human -
To require constant auditory input
That we normalise and internalise
As we grow.
Silence is an impossible standard
we've created
and idealised.
I view 'comfort' in a similar way
to silence.
I don't think I've ever truly
experienced it.
And I believe that any attempt
on my part to do so,
will only make me regret
I ever craved it.
'comfort' -
much like 'silence' -
is best left as an
unachievable dream.
