Rosary of Sumo
( A short tribute)

An amusement born in the Edo period,
became the profession:-
Of many or few...
Perilious & hazardous yet
Cheered and enjoyed as gendai budo - martial art .....
And performed by stout and strong ...
But who are
Sweet and soft as momos at heart
apple cheeked and moon faced .....
With skin as soft as mallows
A neatly fashioned top knot bun around ...
And beautiful beady keen eyes,
Round and mound with the world around them ,
Adorned with mawashi( belt )
Vibrant and spinning with resilience
Disciplined & dedicated ..
Sometimes tired and worn out yet tough
Connoisseur in their art and skills following the everyday rituals without a sigh....
Epitome of sportsmanship;
with
great vigour and strength to face the obstacles of game & life alike are the sumo's...... or rikishi
for whom their rosary is their passion & for them flair for their sport is deemed as worship!

Post scriptum --
We work hard so do others but we also sometimes suffer from age old ailments, so do the others, every job is important and also dignified in there own way, this is the prime realisation no matter what, one example can be of sumos who suffer quite at young age and quite a few have short life span and same is for many people doing hazardous jobs with or without knowledge and suffer long or short term repercussions! So let's just recognise their" dignity "!
