You Fly Girl, Fly High
I am sorry.
That you tried so desperately to fix others when your own hands were shaking,
That I let you seal the wounds of everyone while your own heart was breaking.
You were laughing during times you needed to smile
And smiling during times you needed to cry.
You gave your time to people who didn’t deserve
Who did nothing but stood there and observed.
I did not love you like you should be loved
Forced you to be caged and be a flightless bird.
You learned that kisses aren’t contracts and presents aren’t promises;
That the life you wanted to make here is made from policies.
After a while, you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too close
So you décor your own soul and build your own meadow.
Slowly, you begin to accept everything, with the grace of a woman;
And bravely block the bullets that are showered by the inhuman.
I now ask you to fly,
To be strong,
To be courageous.
I ask you to open your wings and be audacious.
