If your coffee is too hot for you to drink,
talk to me about your day,
as you wait for it to be warm enough.

If the chapter of the book you are
reading is making you feel lost—
invite me to sit with you on the rooftop
as we stare at the stars.

If the rose you planted has not bloomed yet,
show me the collection of stones
that you found on the beach.

If your favorite song
has not been played on the radio,
introduce me to your playlist,
which you specifically made
to listen to on rainy days.

And if you are still waiting
for her to love you back,
hold me while you wait.

'Cause if your coffee is warm
enough for you to drink,
I’ll leave you while
you talk to her about your day.

And if the chapter of the book
you are reading is getting too good
to put down,
I’ll watch you from afar
as you tell her about it;
both of you staring at the stars.

If the rose you planted started to bloom,
I’ll be happy to keep your stone collection
as you give her the rose.

And if your favorite song is playing
on the radio,
I listen to your playlist as you
sing her your favorite song.

But right now as you wait,
will you stay awhile?
