THROUGH THE STORM
Imagine being born in 1900, a tumultuous era of strife,
At 14, World War I explodes, claiming countless lives.
The Spanish Flu strikes when you're 20, deaths reaching fifty million,
Staggering and surreal, a brutal blow to humanity's cohesion.

The Great Depression strikes at 29, causing widespread dismay,
Unemployment soars, economies crumbling in disarray.
World War II engulfs the globe, beginning when you're 39,
A second wave of devastation, a heart-rending time.

The Holocaust claims six million lives, a tragedy so profound,
75 million perish in war, anguish spreading all around.
Korea and Vietnam follow suit, each with its own strife,
Millions more lost, a never-ending cycle of human sacrifice.

Yet through it all, resilience shines from those born in 1900,
They weathered the storms, carried on with unwavering certainty.
In 1985, grandchildren couldn't grasp the hardships they endured,
Their tenacity and strength, a testament to what they had secured.

So let us remember, as 2023 draws near its end,
Amidst our own challenges, perspective we should defend.
For in the annals of history, no storm has persisted forever,
This too shall pass, we'll find a way to endeavor.

As we face the trials of today, let's keep hope in our sight,
Knowing that we, too, will overcome and emerge in the light.
Just as those born in 1900 carried on through thick and through thin,
We shall prevail, united in resilience, as a new chapter begins.
