JUST BE A CHILD
#WritcoPoemPrompt17
Like the little boy sees his mother come
His heart beats like
Let me step into the warmth of your arms,
mom
Let me bask in the sunshine of your smile,
Let me hold you a moment longer, mother mine...
I wish I'm your only son, cuz
Though you taught me that sharing is good
I would be selfish over your your love
Cuz nothing seems more comfortable like the warmth in your embrace that takes my fear away
I don't mind sitting on your laps forever
But I fear being a baby so whenever
You call me, sometimes I run away especially in the presence of my friends
Cuz I fear to be called by my pet names

But what surprises me, is that you keep on calling...
And I wonder why you always interup my business
when I want to play you call me for prayers...
Mom, and everytime I ask you to go out with friends you always tell me I'm not ready for that
I feel like denying you for once and escape from you but your love still draws me to you

I guess that we've all been like this
When the voice of God sounded like an interruption in your busyness but we forget He was supposed to be the first on the list
Sometimes He calls to remind us that we forgot about Him,
Sometimes He calls us because He wants to give us an answer to our prayers,
Sometimes He calls us to guide us in the way that we should go because He is the shepherd
But we get astray, being led by worldliness forgetting that it's Him we ought to fix our eyes on because He is the author and finisher of our faith
We are like
sheep led astray because we don't wanna hear His voice when He calls
Because his voice sounds like rebuke in a Mama's voice,
His anger is like a father's slap saving you from falling into a pit
We think we are more angry than Him who knows what's best for us
So we end up putting Him in a courtroom
On a bench where we are the judge
And when we ask Him to answer our questions He'll only be quiet cuz we have taken the lead.

And now we start asking questions like, why is God quiet?
But would He speak if we denied Him a space in our businesses?
Would He lead if we left Him on a desk at the table where our choices were embroidered, closed behind a door of our daily stresses
In a room filled with our opinions,
And When He looks at the walls of your heart
Are painted with memories of 1970s before you were even in your mother's womb
But you want Him to clear your past mistakes without taking a shower in His blood.
And you want to be dressed up for the wedding before honouring the invitation
So He see us like the little boy, who's called to take a shower before going to a party with his friends
But we wanna go to aparty where we were invited but refused to take the card with us
And we wanna fit in the garment of righteousness yet unwashed by the blood of the lamb of God
So we are here trying out if the garment fits us without repentance
We don't even know the size of our shoes cuz we never preached the gospel
And are helmets of salvation are like worn out shoes cuz we're not sure if we will be raptured
So we're caught at our own games trying to
fight the battles that were not prepared for cuz the shield of faith has been left in the other place where we met Him,
And now we walked our way from Him,
Cuz we thought that what we were chasing was greater than the first love He gave us

But we ought to go back to our first love
Like the little boy sees his mother come
His heart beats like
Let me step into the warmth of your arms,
mom
Let me bask in the sunshine of your smile,
Let me hold you a moment longer,
Because that's where I'm meant to be
In a place where passion is more comfortable than cushions .
