THE STRANGE BOX
There was once a man and a woman
They lived together chained to each other
One day they got gifted a strange looking box
The kind they have never seen before.

Without touching it, or holding it
or trying to find an inscription on it
They placed the box in the middle of their room
The man looked at its right
The woman looked at its left
They couldn't figure out what it was.

"It's a mystery box", the man exclaimed in anguish
"It's a puzzle box", the woman muttered under her breath
Determined to solve the mystery, puzzle box
They seeked help in every way they could think

They asked their family
The family said "beat it open"
They asked their friends
Their friends said "just throw it away"
They asked strangers
The strangers said "it's magic keep away"
They asked God
And God was silent!

The man and the woman found no real answers
The man threw a tantrum
"Why can't this abominable thing open itself?"
The woman started crying
"Why does this happen only to us?"

The man blamed the box and the woman for his anger
The woman blamed the box and the man for her sorrow
They both blamed the box for all their sins.

But, neither the man nor the woman realised
That the box was made just for them
That it was easy to solve with their gentle touch
That the box was the answer to all their problems.

One twist to the right
One twist to the left
One to the top and
One to the bottom
The box would've clicked open
And revealed the precious gem inside.

All they had to do was
patiently touch the box
Together and with love

But, the box stayed where it was kept
Getting putrid and rotten.
The man kept huffing and cursing,
Engulfed in his own anger
The woman kept weeping and praying
Drowned in her own sorrow.

What could've been a heaven on earth
Their anger and sorrow made it a living hell
Even in their last moments the man and the woman didn't see
That they asked the whole world for help to solve the little box
While never trying to solve it themselves.
