A Better Me! .....The title of a song by Debra ( written by Swiss composer Fabian)
An extract from my Eulogy for Debra:-
Who was Debra?
An Angel sent to earth to carry out good works, spreading the message of kindness & love to all she encountered, before returning to be with the Angels.
Who was Debra?
A giver, not a receiver. She devoted her working life to help others,
working in the care sector. Her focus was working with God's Forever Children
my terminology for young people living in the community, who unfortunately will never be fully equipped with the skills to live independent lives.
Who was Debra?
My beloved neice, unfortunately she was always more concerned with the health and welfare of others tending to overlook her own health problems.
She suddenly started experiencing heavy and irregular monthly periods. As a precaution she was advised to undergo tests to ensure that there were no underlying problems.
At this particular time she was planning to relocate her home several hundred
miles away, too many things to do, no time for hospital tests!
Who was Debra?
A talented singer with a beautiful, yet haunting voice. Her shyness & modesty
prevented her from sharing her talent with many others on Social Media.
She did however sing in her local church choir!
Finally settled into her new home she decided to seek medical advice about her periods, tests showed that she had advanced cancer of her womb and overies.
Extensive surgery was carried out followed by a lengthy and painful course of chemotherapy where she lost all of her hair.
She endured her treatment bravely and without complaining!
Finally, she was able to ring the hospital bell which signifies that her cancer was now in remission!
Sadly, at a routine follow up examination it was discovered that not only has the Cancer returned but it had spread to other parts of her body, namely her lungs and surrounding her heart.
At this stage it was decided that no further treatment or surgery would be effective. the last few months of her life were spent carrying enjoying the remaining time that she had left.
On her wish list she wanted to record a song on SoundCloud that would remain in the hearts & minds of others once she was no longer with us.
One morning in September three years ago, her sister asked what she would like for her breakfast, Debra replied that she was feeling a little tired and wanted to sleep.
An hour later, Debra aged only 57 had already started her journey to Heaven....
....to sing with the Angels.
Rest In Peace Debra, We Miss You!
It occurred to me that Debras initials spelt out many of her unique characteristics for which she will always be remembered :-
D is for devoted daughter sister niece and friend
E is for enthusiasm Debra's zest for living life to The full!
B is for bravery for enduring her many rounds of cancer treatment
R is for recording her favorite song A Better Me,
A is for artistic, Debra's artistic flair shone through on everything she touched
DEBRA, enjoy singing with the Angels.
