Blessed Union
'What hear you about the land?'
Whispers and chit-chats
None dare breathe a word
Terror is the rifles they carry
Yet they say 'We are one,'
Come now, you lass _
Our nuptials will be celebrated
And the knot be tied

Had we known, we should have broken the bond
Their dowry though refunded
Showed no sign of freedom to us
Ay! I see a sharp nose officer
Firing at an Anglophone_
I wonder why they call us so
Brothers_they used to call us
My daughter, will they chant
See them now
With bloodstained fists
And dirty streaked uniforms
Patrolling with no remorse

Sound the warning,
The Earth is thirsty; we must quench its taste
Tell the head,
It has grown too big for the body to carry
We depart at dusk, for peace to reign
Leaving none to tell the story
