The Lament
The piano keys are black and white
The violin strings are wound so tight
I try my best to concentrate
The clock struck twelve, the hour late
The notes I'd written on the sheet
The timing of the metronome beat
The music truly made me whole
It soothed my spirit, touched my soul
My shaking hands in front of me
My vision blurred, I could not see
I took a breath and closed my eyes
To face the truth, forget the lies
I knew deep in my heart and mind
It won't be long before I'm blind
My precious sight, it will be gone
And yet the show must still go on
