Grandmas Kitchen
#WritcoPoemPrompt42
Write a poem focusing on a single memory, or describe what you might imagine the typical grandmother’s kitchen to be like. #poetizer #family

Grandmas kitchen
Framed in my memory
scattered knitted cloths
adorn the counter

An egg timer
rattling
Shortbread is ready!

Glass jars
with little pink candies
well loved oven mitts
tied to a cupboard

A fully stocked
pantry
with Carnation
evaporated milk

'It never expires'
these rusty cans
practically relics
she could of bought them
in 1956

Whisking
& humming
wearing little bowed
slippers

It's her kitchen
so stay out
she'll let us know
when dinners ready

An impressive collection
of tiny spoons
line the walls
never to be used
each one holds a story
she'd love to share with you

Hand written recipe cards
crowd the fridge
amongst family photos
& bizarre magnets

She cooks the same meal
every day
she's a creature of habit
& likes it that way

God forbid
I got a midnight snack
'you need something honey?'
She'd snap out of bed

Selfless & warm
Grandma Cake
only has kind bones

I reckon she's in the kitchen
as I write
boiling a pot of tea
to end the night

She wouldn't
dare leave
the kitchen a mess
before she settles down
in her rocking chair

She's quick
& efficient
She's eager
to catch up on Jeopardy
