The Flashback, in Ashes
That evening's ghost still haunts my soul,
Now, in the twilight of my thirties, I return...
That stark scene, marked in my memory at ten,
replaying countless times with teary eyes.

The evening had danced with jubilation,
Extended family, priceless pets, celebratingg the town's liberation
From the grip of anti-social tribes,
Our precious spices a threat to their shadows.
My palace, our ancestral home, surrounded by the backwaters,
Sight of pride for the town,
Uncles, aunts, cousins swaying to the rhythm, the local fiesta, music weaving...

But then, evil, masked figures came down on us,
cutting off power lines, dousing our abode
In flammable liquid, igniting our universe.
Lives lost, dreams reduced to ashen remains, cousins and I witnessed it all,
lying in the pool of despair,
Rescued away across distant lands.

Twenty years later, like souls seeking compensation, we return.. to the remnants of our palace, an echo of former glory,
dampened walls crying tales of losses and ruin. 💔
