To Monsoon
Hail thee, ' the vigour of earth '
After the days of torrid sun
Drooping plants hath new birth,
The resting days of naughty bun
Much tired with summer fun.
With flowers of tantalising smell
What fragrance produce Thee!
Yonder the peahen raises his tail
' What joyance rains upon me
To feel my heart like turbulent sea '.
Who proclaims thou'rt out of lay?
Swallow may cease his summer's pain,
But the sound of shower throughout the day
And at eventide from a stagnant plain
Toads 're ready to produce their strain.
