Freedom is not free for us,
I am a girl who's not safe be it on a train or bus.
I wish to walk freely just like you my boys,
But society has not given me this choice.
Forget about night but also during the day,
even in a busy road we have to change our way.
Yes, India is free and so we are,
Safety of women's is still not at par.
For a daughter, sister, mother and friend,
everyone has different options to recommend.
Wear decent clothes and stop going out alone,
Talk nicely in a very soft tone.
Is this independence for the world?
Even our shouts and words go unheard.
A small girl is not safe at home and an elder one is not safe outside,
don't make us the victims of genocide.
Every religion worship us in one way or other,
Goddess Durga, Saint Mary or another.
On this independence day, think about our rights and freedom too,
Gift us a world which is fearless and so true.
Let us also walk and talk with a pride,
in this life which is just a small ride.
