darkness is not a feeling
I know I can be out of my depths
elevated heart rate and my
favorite memory from childhood
brings a smile when there’s
no other light source
and the familiar faces
have turned into strangers—
to go through all that, hidden struggle
starting to show the signs—
all the while I keep losing
the pieces of me
that I would have liked to show you
