The Cross
#WritcoPoemChallenge
The smile on my face is real,
It bears witness of how I feel...
When you see me smile like this,
Be reminded it's in honor of the 'Big Deal'

The crowd cheered on like hungry werewolves
Their loud noise waking up the children in the neighborhood
"save yourself, if you are the Son of God! "
He looked on, slouched forward, and gave a nod.
Was he not the one they called Rabbi and Lord?
Seems today all those praises have been ignored.
To them, now, he's a slave,
No longer the One with the power to save.

I looked up and noticed the gloomy clouds
I pushed through the crowd, meandering with my head sadly bowed.

He noticed me and I offered to carry his cross
He answered 'tis mine and not yours. Just hang on at the end, it's not your loss'
Those words touched me, but even more was that I walked on with the Saviour in front

Like a sheep heading right for the slaughter house
Onward he went, onward he looked.
His blood dripping with every step He took.
I was privileged to walk where the Saviour has trod.

Once the sacrifice was made...
(He was crucified and His body in the tomb, was laid)
I went down on my knees,
In worship of the King of Kings,
At the foot of the cross.

The clouds cleared, but came down with torrents of rain
Washing away the tears on my face
With every raindrop, I could feel the Savior's pain
The sacrifice He made, just so you and I could be saved

I lift up my eyes to the heavens and I'm blessed with a smile.
The joy of bearing the Saviour's cross
Knowing his death was not a loss.
