I love orange

Ever since I was young, when the orange markers always seemed to have more juice
I’d use them because no one else wanted to
Orange markers were the ones that used to write perfectly
From that, I learned early on that the best things in life were most often overlooked

When my classmates would color their corners yellow,- for the sun
I would argue in my marker’s favor, and color my corners orange

Even now.
I favor the best citrus smelling color, opposed to lime green and lemony yellow

Even now,
I choose the orange straws
The orange pen
The orange flowers,-
The orange boards
The orange fruit

Choosing only to take pictures of the sunsets that starred orange, front and center
Growing up, i changed my favorite color from orange to red, to blue, to green to every other color in the rainbow

But i found that no other color smelled like my favorite candle
Or felt like my favorite blanket
Or sounded like my favorite composition

As life got complicated, i got complicated
So when people asked what my favorite color was,
I told them Quercitron
Which is just a fancy name for a shade of orange

I fell in love with how distinct orange was
The moment you smelled it, you just knew someone was peeling one behind you.
That familiarity is what makes orange so special

I love orange
I love you
