The seeds of Nature were lifeless rocks. But from where sprang life? There was no interaction of rock species that could mate. Nor molecules of water that could begat something other than dirty water. Something new happened. Something the heat of a star could not melt out of a rock. Something water could not drown out of the sand. Something came with into the heat and cold, light and dark, and opened a gift that gave everything color. Something that was more conscious, something that had a force of will, something that had the power to enact it. There is no power in a rock that could of its own weakness make itself stronger and yet softer. There is no lack of power in water to overwhelm and yet it has no capacity to hold itself.
