I Keep a Bottle
I keep a bottle on my bedstand just in case.
Prescribed just for me, my name written in bold.
With explicit instructions for the time and place.
When life has crudely beaten me down and I'm out cold.
💊💊💊💊
When my knees are weak, my body drained.
And, I can't stand up to walk the narrow line.
When my mind's blacked out and my hands are chained.
And, my nerves are wracked and maxed to the nines.
💊💊💊💊
When I feel it in my weary and brittle bones.
From the top of my head to the soles of my feet.
When I view the world in just black and grey tones.
And, I'm down-and-out and bitterly browbeat.
💊💊💊💊
When I've done all else and all else has failed.
And, all is sadly lost, there's no way back.
When my number's up and my ship has sailed.
And, my days are dismal and I feel the icy rack.
💊💊💊💊
When I'm completely twisted and I can't break free.
And, I'm all dried up and I can no longer weep.
I'll quietly kneel down and ask the heavens for mercy.
I'll toss and turn no more and wait for sleep.

💊💊💊💊
It's then, that I'll reach for the bottle on my bedstand and expire in peace.
