I have forgotten
how much I enjoy the written.

Social media typically gives
temporary reprieve from the world and its sins
via images and quips and pithy remarks
that all turn trivial when all goes stark

But writing gives an outlet
for creativity untouched it
lets words live on and have a life of their own
when the world turns bleak and we feel alone

it can give colors to pages
to words written in ink
it can gives life to lyrics
waiting for someone to sing

The written provides a world
sheltered, and all of its own.
its heart, its soul,
you and I - we can be free, you know
