Once Upon a December
Once upon a December
I saw your spirit fade like an ember
The hour was untold
I watched it linger and unfold
You prayed
By your side I stayed
The cold wind chilled my bones
It's remarkable but I never saw you as old
I watched you drift into deeper sleep
Your eyes were shut you went into the deep
They never opened again
I sat holding your hand
I whispered, " Your hand is getting cold."
I heard you gasp for air
Then suddenly you were no longer there
I wondered if your soul watch me as you left
As I cried out and wept
You took a journey I couldn't yet follow
Sadness became my constant companion
Every December there are phantoms
