It was in the year 1999
When dad received news that his life was on the line
He once spoke of 'a visitor'
But I never understood until I found dad's last letter

"There he was, at my door
I stood face to face with my unwanted visitor
'kind sir, your time is up' were his words that made my mind go 'pop!!'

I invited in my intruder
Not sure if I was prepared for this encounter
We sat and we dined
And for a moment, I felt all was gonna be fine

That was when reality hit me
He walked out without crossing out my name from his long list
This visitor, truly is a beast
Even after enjoying all of my feast
He would rest not till I go down in defeat.

I close this final letter, with these few words to my daughter
I wouldn't want her to falter
So someone, please...
Tell her...

For now, I say goodbye
I never thought my time would come so soon
Tonight, I'm faced with my inevitable doom
And though I may be gone
Set your eyes on the glory of a new dawn
Let not our goodbyes be forlorn

No matter how tough it gets in this phase
Do not forget my face
And let not the memories we shared be erased

Let not my absence cause you much pain
But be rest assured that we'll meet again
So for now, I say, Goodbye. "

I gaze at the starry sky
With tears welled up in my eyes
Though you seem so far
I will search for you among the numerous stars
Wherever my eyes may set, there, I believe, you are.

The sweet presence of the morning dew
Reminds me of memories shared with you
Your absence, sure is painful
But I believe, soon, I shall heal

So many questions busting up my mind
And these answers I'm eager to find
But why, death, did you steal dad's Jo and pride?
Did such an innocent soul commit against you any crime?
Why then did you take away the youthfulness of this prime?

Even as I try to rhyme
I'm close to tears
My prayer, dear Lord, Take away the pain
And let my wait to the end not be in vain
So for now... Goodbye, dad
