Intelligence, compassion, affection,
courage, greed, stubbornness, tolerance,
Only a few strengths and flaws
defining humanity,
These qualities are what makeup
our personalities
this is what makes us
unique.
We are only on this earth
but the briefest of moments,
As mortal beings
we must recognize our mortality
so we may survive and evolve,
Imminent death
brings man to the precipice
encouraging the human spirit
to expand
so we can evolve.
As a newborn infant
our most perilous time,
we are dependent
on others to survive.
Our fundamental knowledge
is renewed in our genetics,
pushing humanity to succeed,
We are dangerously exposed
at this instant in our life.
Infancy is the time for
discovery, evolving, maturing,
using all our senses
to explore every aspect
of this new life.
Our minds are like sponges
soaking up knowledge
at an astounding rate,
Puberty is our destructive stage,
our minds believe we are invincible,
pushing our mortal bodies to the limits,
We learn through exploration
testing our boundaries
learning by trial and error.
Looking back wondering,
how we even survived
this stage of our life.
Adulthood is the arousing juncture
of our short life,
We are only human,
our mortality co-exists with time
as it continues moving onward
aging our minds and bodies.
Recognizing our time is brief
in this world
we must make
every moment count,
Seniors recognize
time never slows down
always moving forward
along with their mortality
waiting for no one.
We all are dying
from the moment of conception,
to the moment of our death.
We are human and very vulnerable,
Time is extraordinarily brutal to our minds
along with our bodies.
Age is an element of time
most of us fight to resist,
Some strive to live life to the fullest
these are the mentally ageless,
our bodies relentlessly age,
some accept it gracefully,
knowing that time is unavoidable,
The reality of living is in
the reality of death,
We are not eternal but mortal
in that lies our strength
not our weakness,
Reaching out to embrace life
knowing it's fleeting,
Secure in the perception
that humanity is in all of us,
Awareness enables all to
age gracefully.
The one great truth,
We are all born to die
When our time comes,
nothing will stop it.
