NOT A HOME
A hospital is not a home
Was never meant to be
Just a place to revive weary bodies
An island on life's turbulent sea

It's doors are open around the clock
Receiving guests of every kind
Every day, the medical personnel patrol
Not quite knowing what they might find

With the patients is where our loyalty lies
Time, skill and care we give
Sometimes, even putting our own bodies on the line
Just to see to it that they live

And when the guests are back on their feet
We send them on their way
For here can never be a home
No matter how long you stay

So, when next you visit a hospice
Look around, and you will see
There's a thin line between life and death
More appreciative of God you will be
