what they say is a powerful thing
don’t speak
don’t cry
don’t be
broken
what they mean is for us to be strong in a world that has done nothing but left us hopeless
they say things like
be strong
because they can’t even begin to imagine the war that wages in our heads
it’s a war between patience and pain and there is no winner
unless winning means I end up dead.
I fought for too long
I’ve lost and I’ve won
and with blood and tears I’ve ended up here just to hear them say “stay strong”
