Gritty Truths
Today was her special day, My friend,
Yet I didn't wish her.
Although I knew,
The reasons why,
They're not so few

Once upon a time,
No celebrations garced my door,
No wishes, just silent air,
Even from my kin, no geniune care,
Masked smiles, that I couldn't agree more

Aesthetic gifts, Suprise parties,
Are just a forgotten dream,
Yet, here I stand hiding the pain,
Silent but not without refrain

I envy not the others joys,
Yet my own it smothers,
Even when presents come my way,
I question their sincerity day by day

Responsibility is it true?
To wish her joy as others do?
Disguising my smile,
I wish her well,
Concealing the truth behind my eyes

My friends, they seem,
But darkness they cast,
Fleeting, insincere, fading fast.
Their pity, a silent soul,
Fueling the fires of my inner woe.

It's not my duty, this charade I play,
To wish them well on their special day.
Yet still I do, with a heart that's torn,
For those I once knew, now so forlorn.
