Touring my City in June
We sit down
And so begins our city
We start our road map

Lay out houses
Big memories

We begin to build
And soon we find ourselves
Paving roads
Creating new buildings

But I begin to realize
You stick to main Streets
The second I turn down an alley
You guide me back to a main road

We cannot touch anything deeper
Then what lies on highways
And on interstates

Our conversation does not stray
From work and current events
You do not ask of home life
Nor even family relations
And never once have you
Ask about feelings

You ignore places
Filled with what's more interesting
Staying surface level
You don't dare peak into my sewers

Do you not care for Alley cats
And graffiti on walls
Or perhaps you hate
seeing plants climb up a wall
And old dumpsters rot with trash

No you like white walls
Pristine roads
And washed out gutters

Simple conversation
For your perfectly
Simple life

And your life
Is for perfection
Who cares for scratches and marks
They simply dirty your city

So you avoid mine
Treat them like the rats they are
With disgust and shame

But if you threw a little light on them
You might find beauty
In cracks an odd places
In the graffiti on my walls
In the vines that grow up my bricks

My city may have broken parts
But that does not mean you can avoid them

Yet still
No matter what I say
Your tour takes place
In the main bustle of my city

You stick to tourist attractions
And avoid reality

But for how long

Soon
You'll hear something
Perhaps about childhood
Or some forgotten memory

But you will know
And you will see

There is much much
More to me
Then main Street
