AT CROSSROADS
I know what it's like to love a flower,
to fall so deep,
only to fall so short.
I know the dread, the grief,
the sheer power
that the darkness begins to hold.

But now I also know
what it is to be on the other end.
To be loved so deep and true,
but feel nothing but darkness within.
The feeling of numbness;
so alive but dead in the same moment.

I should not do this to the flower,
for why engage when
I simply do not care?
Saying "no" and my heart is ripped
shredded in guilt,
guilt for pulling darkness over a bright tulip.
Saying "yes" and we live our lives as a lie, the tulip and I.

So tell me,
what do you do
when your brain chooses a path,
but your heart chooses the other?
