A Mask
In pursuit of an elusive cure, I surrender myself,
Seeking solace in a placebo, my inner ache to quell.
Fearful of burdening others, spreading dark despair,
How can I alleviate my pain, this heavy load to bear?
Yearning to express, without burdening you with strife,
My selflessness extends, deepening scars upon my life.
Unbeknownst to you, I'm crumbling beneath this disguise,
Suppressing falling tears, as I'm urged to wear a guise.
I paint a false smile, a mask for the world to see,
Yet inside me, a fire fades, the soul slowly withers, silently.
