A billion years or more
They came down from stars
And galaxies and universes
Remote and by us unknown,
To certain regions about the Pole.
All of the Elder World was but one
Limitless ocean in that age,
And the Moon herself was but
Recently torn from the womb
Of the Pacific; nascent and uninhabited
Was this Earth in those dim,
Forgotten days, for the terrene life
Had not as yet advanced beyond
Mere plastic clusters of cells
Cast forth from the primordial
Being we call Ubbo-Sathla...
