What We Leave Behind
He was old but he'd been younger
hed known pain and he'd known hunger
and he'd loved and lost and bravely loved again
When he had something good he kept it
When he was wrong he'd accept it
Which cannot be said of many men
He didn't beg nor did he borrow
And he'd caused nobody sorrow
And he had a wife that never left his side
He knew this moment was their last
"Your beauty never left " he gasped
words she cherished until the day that she died.
