The Banner’s Lament
#WritcoPoemPrompt28
She floats like a dream,
Before she sinks under,
Carrying in her folds,
The dying cries of the soldiers...
The wind hums their names,
A sorrowful dirge on hollow lips,
While blood stains the restless tide,
Whispering stories no one reads.
Once, she bore the weight of hope,
A banner bright against the sky,
Now, she cradles broken echoes,
Soft laments where bodies lie.
The moon’s pale fingers trace her path,
Silver tears on water’s skin,
Marking where the lost ones rest,
Silent, cold, and deep within.
Yet, she drifts toward morning’s breath,
Through mist that bends but never breaks,
And in the hush of waking light,
She folds their dreams upon the waves.
Beneath her touch, the ashes dance,
Shadows of lives once fierce and bold,
Now scattered stars in water’s arms,
Their legacies in silence told.
A flag once kissed by battle’s roar,
Now rests where even war...
