The Puppet Ruler
They made walls and castles on my land;
They made roads and refreshment counters;
They made markets, selling goods they preferred;
They had their spies planned, every nook and corner.

They crowned me, the king, as the land was mine,
And I stayed that way only in name;
They jotted the rules they believed were vital-
And convinced me why they were crucial.

They made me believe it's all for my good;
Now that I look back at their actions
I wonder if they considered me or someone else?
As none of their works makes me proud of this land where I stand.

They made me believe things that weren't true,
They took away my right to question them as they were learned,
They constrained my freedom around my land,
They even documented incorrect reports on my turf.

Were paving roads necessary when I loved walking adventurous tracks?
Were fancy castles necessary when I enjoyed staying in countryside houses?
Were markets necessary when I am the only one in this entire land?
Their strategies just locked my conscience inside a fancy castle where I don't belong.
