Of Fire and Ice
Foster wakes at half past noon
And he rolls out of the sheets
He hears and smells his breakfast cook
His wife hasn't missed a beat

After eggs and ham and juice
They work up all the bills
And head out through the front door
Toward the keeper of the tills

All is well, they're there in time
To make needed ends meet
Then the room grows cold- unnatural
And they leave oh so discreet

She takes the entry as he goes round back
To wait and catch their foolish foe
These hooligans are far too fresh
And his plans have to go

She sees a man who's bound to help
As he steps into the place
So she circles to the building rear
To see her husband's face

In a moment the villain rushes out
And they watch as he runs
About three blocks away
Stowing several stolen guns

In they swoop without a sound
As this bandit counts his pay
And they sing him a sweet lullaby
Because today is not his day.

"If you can return the money and get ours"
Says the Sleeper to his bride
"I have an errand I must complete
Across town in North Side."

She smiles and nods agreeably
As she's grasping the joke
He lets a hero have his day
And on his bed he leaves a note.
