What does freedom feel like?
To the hands
that have seen shackles
all their lives,
it feels like the pain that remains
when the binds come off.
To the eyes
that have seen the world
mostly through tears,
it feels like those moments
when the rain has stopped
but the clouds remain.
To a heart
that was told when to beat,
it feels like silence
that tears you apart.
To a soul
that felt pure before,
it feels like the dust
hung in the air
after the storm has passed.
