The wounds are too deep,
they won't heal so soon.
When did I sow what I reaped?
I've spent a lifetime waiting for the boon.

When the scars refuse to vanish,
they remind you of the pain that was,
their presence is not a medal for bravery,
they taint your skin with a tumultuous past.

They prevent you from seeing
the sprouting of the dawn,
and when a ray of hope breaks through,
the scars hold you back like a pawn.

It is difficult to let them go,
they appear when innocence suffers a lot,
but holding onto them is poisonous enough,
it will tarnish your heart and make it rot.

So let scars fade, let them go,
they lack the power to make you smile,
just be grateful for the lessons learnt,
for your present will be better sans that turmoil.
