Canon in D
The back of the church is where I stood
It was so very quiet, a somber mood
I walked down the aisle ever so slow
A big part of me just wanted to go
I knew that I couldn't, I had to be here
I started to cry softly as I drew near
There you lay inside a dark wooden coffin
You looked so peaceful, but ever so thin
As I took my seat, the people came
So many faces, some different, some same
They shook my hand and spoke a kind word
I thanked a few, but many went unheard
The service was lovely and not too long
Someone even sang a song
I took the stage and gave your eulogy
I spoke of who you were and what you meant to me
The Lord's Prayer then, our voices as one
Your funeral service was almost done
And finally at the end we got to our feet
The bearers approached, suits matching and neat
The music began as they carried you away
The same song that played on our wedding day
The moving melody surrounded me
The beautiful notes of Canon in D
