The Neglected Son
These past few days, he's been aloof.
Stays at his room with no one to talk.
Busied himself with notes and books.
Trying to forget suicidal thoughts.

One afternoon, he asked for meds.
Taking tablets for aches and pains.
Hoping it would keep him sane,
From irritability and restlessness.

Every evening, during dinner.
Has appetite loss, at times, overeating.
Goes upstairs like nothing happens.
Leaving his parents, ignoring them.

I saw the signs, yet I ignored.
Neglected it, didn't resolve,
Knowing that I could help him heal.
Regret and shame, that's what I feel.

And now, I'm at a funeral.
Feeling guilty of not acting out,
As a parent a child should have.
Wishing I was the best mom he had.

A message to all the parents.
Please learn to act and listen.
Don't let your child suffer.
Fighting alone with no supporter.
