Truth About Self-Love
While hoping and waiting
To be "saved" by someone,
For them to love and
Appreciate the way I am,
I didn't even realise that
I already took the necessary steps
And did it all by myself.
Along the way
Another lesson was learned-
I'm not a damsel in distress,
The love I should have for myself
Can't be gained through someone else.
So I'll take the time and put more effort
Into loving my virtues as much as
I tolerate my sweet little vices.
And sweet they are, bitter at worst.
We all have them, no matter how much
That inevitable truth hurts.
