Secrets
Late in the evening while the children are swinging
So too will their mother's frail frame
By a rope she will tie firm to the staircase railing
And a letter she will leave upon the ottoman with their father's name
No longer able to cope with torment so ailing
Today she will seek to end its incessant ringing.
The children will hear the garage door slide
As their father's truck pulls into the drive
Another late day at work will weigh heavy on his mind
Until the children's laughter reminds him of why he is alive
But then he will open the door to find
That his wife knows of secrets he has tried to hide.
