Shoes and Sweet words
I was in a shop
trying on shoes
Shoes to be ladylike
and not just shoes for walking
I kept pondering
Did I like them
did I need them?
The busy shop assistant
stopped to give some help
on shoe matters, needs and views
I said they were for my journey
for my retirement escape
Then the lady asked if ok
to know my age
She commented...
how good I looked
and lucky in my looks at such a stage
She didn't need to say it
didn't need to make a sale
but
she made the ordinary feel special
I thanked her for sweet words
and we both smiled
I bought the shoes
as she'd made me feel I could still walk on sunshine ...
well
just for a while
