run into spring
#WritcoPoemChallenge
Into the flames rising out of a setting sun,
I draw in a deep breath before I run...
Filling my lungs hoping for strength
As my legs begin motion
Exhale with intention
Feet slap against the street
Sun fades to purple
Air cools as it should
My pace quickens as I know it should
Rythmic control
Pulse bursts into a flow
Scents soften as my adrenalin grows
Torso tightens as day turns to night
a crack shatters dream of a first grade teacher
another takes away my first kiss
The air is cooler than last time I ran
Crack again
that one lost my bike
I run in darkness as my shirt sticks to my rip torn flesh
the cracks so rapid
like a standing ovation as I launch myself in the air
a moment of peace
a sunset of disbelief
young man
lands
race isn't over
a break is all I need
how many holes does one really need
have I been
disqualified ?
I shudder to think as my body depletes
was all that noise just for me?
I am so young
mom's only son
however it looks
I'm not the one that took the change from the register drawer
my days on the track
tin trophies sit in a stack
next week is a chorus recital
hate I won't be able to sing
stars fill the sky as I shake under the eyes
of those that were sworn to protect me.
