I could see the longing in your eyes,
the silent plea for escape from the anguish that had befallen our relationship.
Each day, the distance between us seemed to grow,
until it became an insurmountable chasm that I knew I couldn't bridge.
Your smile, once so full of joy and warmth,
had dulled with the weight of the sadness that seemed to hang over us.
I tried to ease your difficulties,
to lift the burden that I could see you carrying, but it was as if I was grasping at shadows,
unable to truly reach you.
And as I watch you slip further and further away,
my heart aches with the knowledge that I wasn't enough to make you stay.
The emptiness that now lingers in the space you once occupied is a tangible reminder of the love that has been lost,
and the sorrow that consumes me in the wake of your departure.
In trying to alleviate your pain,
I unwittingly became the cause of it,
