Sitting on the back porch,
Life’s just a flicker of a torch,
Drinking away my pain and sorrow,
Raise a glass for a better tomorrow.
Remembering the first day I held you close,
The spirit moved much like a haunted house with your ghost.
That was so many years ago,
I broke your heart and you had to go.
Now; I live on the edge of town alone,
Now my lonely heart has found a home,
Just me, my dog and my books,
Away from the public eye and the sorrowful looks.
