Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (Edinburgh, 22 May 1859 – Crowborough, 7 July 1930) was a Scottish writer and playwright, considered, together with Edgar Allan Poe, the founder of the two literary genres of detective fiction and fantasy.
In particular, it is the progenitor of the subgenre known as deductive crime fiction, made famous by the character of the detective Sherlock Holmes.
However, his production ranges from adventure novels to science fiction and historical themes.
