The Prince
#WritcoPoemChallenge

As far as a letter goes,
It was nondescript,
The message it carried was sinister,
But it didn't matter to the boy.
He was fiercely motivated,
To look forward and find the truth,
The truth which would soon be unravelled,
The truth of his existence.
The letter was from his late grandfather,
The one who witnessed it all,
But he found it halfway inside the familiar house,
The house which was once his home.
He had crept inside stealthily,
Trying to reckon if there were any memories,
Anything that would help him,
To find his way into the unknown.
He found a red envelope,
Inside which there was a half torn letter,
A letter which was addressed to him,
The only heir of the broken kingdom.
The content was short and cunning,
As if it was trying to threaten him,
To run away from the house,
Far away where no one could reach him.
He hunted inside the house,
To look for a clue to resolve the mystery,
Just like a hunter searching for its prey,
Confidently and cautiously.
Finally, he came across a portrait of a lady,
Below which there was her name,
He read it aloud and got utterly surprised,
As the name belonged to his mother,
But, the portrait was of his supposedly caretaker's,
The one who was waiting for him,
To come back and have his meal,
The one who brought him up.
He couldn't believe his eyes,
Now everything made sense,
His long lost will to live came to life,
He finally understood that the motherly affection he seeked,
Had always been with him,
He was the one who judged a book by its cover,
He was the one who pushed her away,
Assuming her to be just a helper.
Now that the truth is in light,
The prince rushed towards his home,
Along with the letter he found,
And a photo of the queen's portrait.
