Forbidden Dreams
#WritcoPoemPrompt82

At night when I lay in bed,
As I drift towards my sleep,
When the eve becomes shadowy red,
My slumber begins to deepen.

And then I see it...
Little broken pieces of me,
Scattered everywhere for everyone to see.
My stomach starts burning,
I feel suffocated,
As slumber clutches onto me,
Holding me in a deep sleep.

I want to escape, but the lights flicker,
And I'm unable to really see,
All these forbidden moments created by me.
It's like I'm a whole new person,
And maybe I was okay with having these dreams
That somehow turn into living nightmares... sometimes only.

At night when I lay in bed,
All I can think about are the forbidden moments,
So wrong yet always desired.
What can I do?
If I can't have you near me,
Maybe imagining you to be real is the closest I can get...
Just until you recognize me.

I'm not trying to be cocky,
I just need to know,
"What did that good morning mean to you?"
Or am I pining for feelings that shouldn't happen?
Give me an answer now.
Am I pining for feelings never meant to happen?

Are we forbidden?
Is there no hope... ever?
I just need you to know I never meant for any of this.
I'm overthinking again,
Like I always do.

All this is real, even in dreams.
If we are forbidden,
I'll love you from a distance.
