The Dark Clown
Do you go putting a smile on someone’s face
Whilst your inner soul feels totally out of place?
Are you the one who acts as the silly clown
Yet your whole world has come crashing down?

Do you hide behind the daily masquerade
Feeling inadequate, but playing this charade?
Are you ashamed of what you have become,
Strangled with fear and feeling so dumb?

Why do you make others so feel so good
But you don’t feel it cos of the dark mood?
Why do pretend to have everyone’s back
Yet looking into your eyes, all I see is black?

Come, my friend, tell me your tales of woe
Not the entertainment you put on for show.
I am hear to listen, not to bring you down
For I know behind your face is a dark clown.

Do you know many comedians are just like you?
Full of sadness, dark clouds hover over them too.
Just like you they hide their depression from all
Making sure their friends are happy while they fall.

I feel your pain my friend, for I’ve been to that hell.
I know what it’s like to be the funny guy as well.
Let’s go barefoot, walking on the grass in the rain,
Show me your soul and tell me of your pain.

Come, my dark clown, let me humour you instead,
Or tell me what’s going on inside your fragile head.
I don’t or we don’t need to say a word to each other
Know that I will be here, not act like a mother.

Come, my dark clown, it’s time to leave the circus.
Let’s see if we can wash away the dark moods purpose.
Talk to me, my friend, or at least let me be your clown,
Let me bring some sunshine to you when you’re down.

Depression affects so many of us in different ways,
And it’s damn hard to avoid the black dog’s gaze.
Yet so many of us pretend life’s is really okay,
Living and hiding the dark truth day after day.

Many of us are or have been the dark clown,
Making others laugh but under our smile is a frown.
Look up your friends and even give yourself a check.
Before your life or your friends become a train wreck.
