The Rocking Boat
I’m frightened by what isn’t yet
It’s all so out of reach
But it breathes and it’s heart beats on its own
Like a promise I’m made to keep
To keep it sequestered would be unfair
This is not a sink or swim of the mind
But a battle of float or die in real time
Picture a sea serene
The skies are clear yet the boat begins to rock
It creeks as the cedar floors flood
From the storm you couldn’t quite see
Just out of eye line your end come and leaves
What am i to do
I lack the inspiration of a great mind
Motivation of the innovative kind
Do i simply lie in wait for the unforeseen
Should i be grateful to just be alive
I’ve heard that one before
But gratitude does not erase
It belittles until there’s nothing left to do
Nothing left but sand and shore
With the sea behind no longer
