THREE MONTHS AT A TIME I
I have the kind of cancer where you live life three months at a time
And for that 3 months you do the your best to keep your cancer off your mind
For every three months you have to go get scans and that is when you'll learn
If your get to live another three months or if the cancer has returned
For the week before your scans it is hard to keep the fear at bay
But you do your best to wear a brave face every day
The day you get your scans your anxiety level's very high the receptionist ask how your doing. "I'm doing fine You lie."
Soon they call you back to get your scans. "This won't take to long." They say.
And they're right in just a little while the the scans are done and you are on your way.
Now you have to wait For the scan results and see the doctor to find out what's your fate.
I sometimes think the hardest part of having cancer is all the times you have to wait.
The nurse takes you to a room says "the doctor won't be long" leaves and shuts the door.
But after a half hour and the doctor hasn't showen. you wonder is this a sign the cancers back once more.
Finally the door opens and the doc walks in the room and asks you how you've been.
You lie and say you've been fine but you're scared to death within.
Then the doctor says "looking at your scans this is what I see.
There is not a sign of the cancer so your still cancer free.
All the worries of the week gone by begin to fade into the past.
You enjoy the feeling but you know that at best 3 months is all it'll last.
So it's 3 more months of life trying to keep the fact that you have cancer from your mind.
3 months from now you'll go back and do it all again. hoping no cancers what they'll find.
